Years ago I was searching for a good G-Rated mystery script
for
a church activity. Needless to say, they’re hard to find. With
encouragement from a friend, I decided to take on writing
one. “The Lost Lamm” was an remarkably-successful
evening with laughter, mystery and good food. I continued to
write many
scripts over the next few years and am excited to make them
available to you.
As your guests arrive (with their assigned potluck
food item in hand, if desired), the appetizers are on the
table. They are seated by
the characters of your play, dressed in costume and
acting their part. (Example: the overworked maid might
say, “Your seat’s over here...sit down!” While the polite
young heiress would quickly add, “Oh yes, please do sit
down. We’re so glad you’re here.”) This helps the
audience to feel a part of the story and begin
connecting with the actors.
After scene one, the characters again come out
and serve salad to the audience (again, in character).
Then scene two, maybe more before the break for the
audience to stand and serve themselves the main
course. More show and then your characters serve
dessert as the audience also fills out their solution
sheet (who they think did it!) and turn them in. The last
scene is performed and the mystery is solved. The
evening ends with prizes for those in the audience who
figured out the mystery correctly (you could even have a
prize for the most creative answer).
I would have to say these mystery/dinner scripts are
mostly comedy with some mystery thrown in. You will receive
everything you need to put on a great show in one book:
signs, prop list, food ideas, music ideas, costuming ideas,
flyers/handouts and program example. You’re in for a great
night of fun.
